This house is for a friend who promised us 27 years ago that we could design it. Our aim when planning it was to construct the space of two semidetached houses within a square outline, of which some fragments remain. The larger, with an extensive programme, turns around a lift and offers the smaller one support and protection. The fragmented volume exists in the hope that the trees, the ivies, the copper in the roof, the musty green of the paint and time will be reminiscent of the ruined houses of Louisiana.
