Reconstruction of the buildings that were destroyed in the fire that occurred in 1988. The plan for the reconstruction of the neighbourhood is by Álvaro Siza. The project relates the new functional proposals (shopping centre, installations, hotel, underground) to the characteristics of the original ‘Pombaline’ architecture.
