Competition based on CVs prior to the proposal of ideas. Architectural complex including a place for performances, a drama workshop (two dance and expression studios) and a small bar or meeting place. It is housed in an old 16th-century oil mill and a workshop annexe both adjoining the town wall from the same period in the village of Ille-sur-Têt.
The project is subsidised by the Council, the Department of Pyrénées Orientales, the Region of Languedoc Roussillon, the Ministry of Culture and the European Community, all of which took part in differing proportions since the project is considered an initiative for rural cultural development. It is a meticulous project conditioned by strict regulations with regard both to conservation and to stage, acoustic and safety requirements, and the difficulties inherent in a project that deals with masonry of massive boulders and a construction whose foundations are partially built on land adjacent to the river Têt. |
