Competition for ideas in two stages on a site beside the A9 motorway, ‘La Catalana'. An administrative dossier, the team’s CV, its last five years’ work, organisation and computing skills governed access to the competition, for which five teams were finally selected. We were the only Catalan team. Our proposal was an organism comprising three interconnected buildings: brain, heart and limb. The brain is a prismatic glass building (30 x 90 x 90 m) with views of the motorway, containing the management and editorial offices and other facilities. The limb is a prismatic building (25 x 100 x 8 m), subdivided into two volumes with a single level, a prism (20 x 40 x 18 m) that contains the printing department and annexes. The heart is the central building, between the other two. The buildings are communicated by corridors. Each corridor helps to soundproof the buildings, and centralises and distributes the facilities. All have overhead lighting. The complex follows two axes, one running from north to south, which supports the prisms, and another that intersects it at an angle, with the complex’s only point of entry and control located over it. This intersection generates three large sectors: parking, loading and unloading, and a supply petrol station. The whole is completed by a protective green space between it and the motorway.
