ARCHITECT'S COMPETENCES
Description Only a licensed architect can have an independent position in designing and building process, only he/she can sign and stamp a design (which is a base for the building permission) or survey the construction works. The professional activity of an architect is not limited, it includes also planning, urban-, landscape- and interior design, renovation and direction of construction works. The architect is expected to produce complete documentation including structure, engineering and services. He is responsible for hiring all designers and consultants, pay them, and coordinate their work.
 
MECHANISM CHECKING LICENSE TO PRACTISE
Description Departments of Architecture of the local Authority are responsible for checking the credentials of all designers while granting a building permit. According to the Building Law the Investor is responsible to hire or employ a licensed designer to prepare a project and (if necessary) survey the construction works.
 
ARCHITECT'S LIABILITY
Description Architect's liability is practically unlimited in time. The architect as a general designer is also responsible for claims arising from partial projects (e.g. of consultants / engineers).

Description The insurance is compulsory for all registered architects, members of the Professional Chamber. The conditions of insurance contracts are negotiated between architects and insurance companies.

If foreign architects are authorised to work independently, what type of collaboration with national architects is recommended?  
In the event that foreign architects are not authorised to work independently, what is the stipulated formula of collaboration with national architects? Contractual relation with a Polish licensed architect that will take a responsibility, since only he will be authorised to sign and stamp the project.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Poland started negotiations with the European Union. This may change the situation concerning the practice of foreign architects in the near future.
