MECHANISM CHECKING LICENSE TO PRACTISE

|
The municipality where the building shall be carried out is responsible for the stamping of projects that require a registered architect or a registered civil engineer, and it (1) makes sure there is a licensed professional in charge; (2) certifies that the designs comply with all the documentary requirements stipulated by the law; and (3) gives approval for immediate construction. Moreover, architects must formalise their professional responsibility when commissioned to perform any architectural services on a form called Anotação de Responsabilidade Técnica - ART-, which specifies the site, the client and the accorded fees. |

PROCEDURE |
|
Firstly, applicants have to revalidate their secondary education at the Secretaria Estadual da Educação (when they may be required to be fluent with the Portuguese language and the Brazilian history). They are supposed afterwards to present an application to any of the existing federal universities (where his original university programme shall be compared to that of the brazilian course and he may have to pursue some extra educational credits). Only then a foreign architect will have a valid diploma and will be allowed to apply for professional licensing at the CREA of the jurisdiction where he is going to practice. |
