ARCHITECT'S COMPETENCES
Description Design of buildings of more than 250 sqm, feasibility studies, drafting of technical documentation related to the designs, supervision and co-ordination of the construction. Urban planning and develpoment, design of interiors, furnishings, fittings and objects, appraisal services, consulting and technical expertise.
 
MECHANISM CHECKING LICENSE TO PRACTISE
Description Municipalities and District Councils check that each building and development permit for projects exceeding 250 sqm are signed by a professional/licensed architect. Each authority has a list of professional/licensed architects issued by the Professional Architects Council yearly.

Description Decennial guarantee.

REQUIREMENTS
Origin 1 Qualification in architecture from an educational center that is either a)recognised by the Commonwealth Association of Architects b)recognised by the European Union (diplomas listed in the Directive 85/384) or c)approved by the Minister and the Architects' Council; Proof of at least 1 year of experience in architectural practice; Proof of honorability and good behaviour; Having attained the age of 21. If residing in Mauritius during the participation in the project, residence and work permit are needed.

PROCEDURE
Apply to the Council for the joint venture with a local architect.
 
EXPENSES
2000 US$ per project.
 
DOCUMENTATION
Origin 1 (all origins) Joint venture form signed by both parties authentified by a public notary, personal data of the foreign architect (ID/passport, etc.), academic and professional qualifications, proof of professional experience, project details (description, location, client, contract period)

If foreign architects are authorised to work independently, what type of collaboration with national architects is recommended? Foreign architects are only authorised to work independently if the project is a Government building. For any other case a joint venture is required.
In the event that foreign architects are not authorised to work independently, what is the stipulated formula of collaboration with national architects? The joint venture with a local architect that must be approved by the Architects' Council at draft stage and prior to the formalisation of the contract.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
In a collaboration with the local architect, the repartition of fees will be 51% for the local and 49% for the foreign architect of total fees.
